Home Movies At DisneyLand - 1956 from Jeff Altman on Vimeo.

Holy kodachrome, batman.
Jeff Altman, assistant film colourist, inherited 'tens of thousands of feet' of film reel, all home movies from the 1950s and 60s. He's just started restoring them, among them this wonderful home movie that his grandfather filmed of his family visiting Disneyland a year after it opened, in 1956. Jeff's done an absolutely stellar job at restoring image quality (I imagine, or else its the best-kept home movie I've seen!) Look out for Jeff's grandmother shaking hands with the Walt himself. Nice hat :)

But the video I really like is the one below; it ain't a proper family Christmas without crying! Looks pretty retro-rad, there just needs to be some music over the top. What light source did granddad use, anyway? The earth's core?

Makes me wish we still had my great uncle's old black & white 8mm reels; a lot of them were ancient Mickey Mouse cartoons he bought.
